Palmarosa essential oil contains approximately 70-80% monoterpenes, 10-15% esters, and approximately 5% aldehydes. The content of bactericidal and antiviral aldehydes is less than that of lemongrass essential oil and citronella essential oil, which is relatively gentle on the skin.

In terms of skin care, palmarosa essential oil helps balance dry, oily and combination skin types and can be used in small amounts in skin care products. In terms of emotional applications, palmarosa essential oil can be used to soothe anxiety, help relieve sadness, emotional trauma, and help reduce anger.

Palmarosa essential oil is also slightly similar to geranium essential oil and can sometimes be used as a substitute.
